New CAO named
SCS Selects Bankhead-Smith as Chief Academic Officer
The Scotland County School district welcomes a new hire, Dr. Mildred Bankhead-Smith as Chief Academic Officer.
Dr. Bankhead-Smith joins Scotland County School's after serving as science teacher, STEM educator, curriculum specialist and FoodCorps service member supervisor. Mildred has taught elementary, middle grades and high school science. As a FoodCorps service member supervisor, Mildred supported service members with the implementation of gardens in school's and healthy food choices for students. The students and teachers were taught the connections about how gardens supported science education and healthy living. As a curriculum leader Mildred oversaw Science, Healthful Living and Physical Education. She worked closely with teachers, administrators and community leaders to ensure the success of the content areas she led. Dr. Bankhead-Smith earned a bachelor's in science, master's in Education and Doctorate in education degrees. She is an experienced educator with 20 years of total service in Florida and North Carolina Public School's. She is Kenan Fellow and her project focused on an integrated course learning community.
Dr. Bankhead Smith said, “ I am eager and honored to join the work in progress in Scotland County and looking forward to supporting teachers and leaders.”
Superintendent Dr. Takeda LeGrand said, " Dr. Bankhead-Smith is a value-add to Scotland County Schools and will serve us well with implementing and supporting our strategic priorities in the areas of STEM, Arts, MTSS Frameworks, High Quality Professional Development and Professional Learning Communities."
