SCS represented at Scotland County Civic League meeting

The Scotland County Civic League hosted a community Zoom meeting on Tuesday, September 28th.  SCCL President, Rev. Darryl “B.J.” Gibson served as moderator for the meeting. Virtual attendees heard updates from State Representative, Rev./Dr. Garland Pierce, Scotland County Board of Commissioners Vice-Chair, Betty Ghoulston, City of Laurinburg Mayor Pro-Tem/Councilmember, Mary Evans and Scotland County Schools Board of Education Chair, Rick Singletary. After the updates, President Gibson asked for comments from Scotland County NAACP President, Herman Tyson, Scotland County Health Department Director, Dr. Elisha Caldwell and Scotland County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Takeda LeGrand.

During the meeting each representative fielded questions from the audience. The primary questions for Board Chair Singletary and Dr. LeGrand centered on COVID-19 protocols and requirements for Remote Learning. Board Chair Singletary informed the audience that Scotland County Schools follows guidelines from the Scotland County Health Department and the requirements from the North Carolina Department of Instruction. Superintendent, Dr. Takeda Legrand also commended Scotland County Health Department Director, Dr. Elisha Caldwell for the leadership that he and his staff provide to the school system on a daily basis. Both Board Chair, Singletary and Dr. LeGrand assured the audience that safety of students, families, teachers, and staff are the top priority.
