Beginning Teacher Program
Scotland County Schools Beginning Teachers Support Program (BTSP) provides all initially Licensed Teachers in Scotland County intensive guidance and support to assist them in their first three years of teaching. This support allows teachers to successfully integrate collegiate training and past work experiences to develop the skills necessary to become high qualified teachers.
Required Participants:
All initially licensed teachers are required to participate in the initial licensure program. Initial licenses are issued to teachers with less than three years of appropriate teacher experience (normally considered to be three years of public school experience) in their initial licensure area. Teachers from states not included in North Carolina reciprocity agreements, who have not completed an NCATE-approved teacher education program, must participate in the ILP regardless of their length of experience.
Supports:
Beginning Teachers attend orientation, are assigned a mentor, attend regularly scheduled research based training meetings and are provided on-going classroom support to help them become proficient and higher level educators. On site administrators, Instructional Facilitator, Digital Instructional Facilator, school staff, Beginning Teacher Coordinator and other support personnel are enthusiastically available to provide the support, nurturing and clinical guidance needed for Beginning Teachers to acclimate to the educational profession.
