Frequently Asked Questions [FAQ]
What time should my student be at the designated stop each morning?
At least 10 minutes prior to your usual stop time. Due to driver shortages, many of our buses run multiple routes -- sometimes with very little notice. As a result, arrival times may vary. We encourage families to make use of the Here Comes the Bus app. Please speak with someone at your school for more information.
Will the driver leave the stop if my student is not waiting at the assigned stop location?
Yes. While drivers are trained to make stops at all assigned locations to check for students, they are not expected to wait when there is no indication a student is riding. We ask that students are ready and waiting at the stop 10 minutes prior to the usual stop times. Stop times can vary due to substitute buses/drivers, traffic, weather conditions, the addition or removal of students, and students at prior stops not riding.
If my student was at the assigned stop prior to the usual stop time and still missed the bus, what should I do?
Check the HCTB app to determine if the bus has already made your stop. If so, please contact your student's school for assistance.
My student has not arrived home. What should I do?
Check the HCTB app to determine if the bus has arrived in your area. If that cannot be determined, please contact your student's school for assistance. Some of our schools also use social media and other communications to inform families of delays and/or substitutions.
Can the driver drop off my PK-2nd grade student with my permission?
NO. Policy requires a parent/guardian to be visibly present for PK-2 students to be released. Drivers are under no obligation to return to the stop and are trained to notify the school that the students will be returned back to school.
How do I submit a change of address or request a different stop?
Address changes must be submitted through the student's school. This includes both temporary and permanent changes. Schools will notify the Transportation Department and provide documentation to drivers. Please allow 48 hours for requests to be processed.
If you have an issue with a stop location due to safety concerns, you may notify the school or contact the Transportation Department directly. A staff member will assess the stop and consult with the driver to determine if any adjustments are necessary.
Alternate stops (daycare, etc.) are not guaranteed. Requests must be submitted through school administration, who will review the request in accordance with BOE policy and confirm availability with the Transportation Department.
